Evening Events Museum Experience Coordinator (PT-Intermittent)
Job Purpose
The Museum Experience Coordinator is responsible for proper re-opening and closing of the museums during museum rentals. Individual supervises Museum Experience Specialists and oversees logistics, safety, security, visitor interaction and programming within the Museum of Natural History, Duke Energy Children's Museum, the Cincinnati History Museum, and museum public spaces during museum rentals.
Individual works closely with the Museum Experience Management team, and is expected to work effectively and professionally with other museum departments and the general public, maintaining a pleasant and helpful manner. Incumbent will assist staff in the support of the goals set by Cincinnati Museum Center Leadership and the mission statement of Cincinnati Museum Center.
Duties and Responsibilities
• *40% Train and manage evening events specialist staff
• *25% Interpret museum exhibits for evening event guests.
• *15% Facilitate open and close of museums
• 10% Ensure the safety and security of all guests and exhibits.
• 5% Administration and annual reviews of specialist staff
• 5% Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
• Previous supervisory experience, preferably in museums or non-traditional education settings. Individual must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, holidays, evenings, and weekends.
• Bachelor's degree preferred. Teaching, instructional or theatrical experience helpful.
• Candidate should have a general knowledge of Cincinnati’s cultural and natural history (including biology, geology and paleontology) as well as science and art
• Excellent public relations and verbal communication skills are required.
• The candidate must be versatile and should display enthusiasm and creativity, and must be able to work and interact with visitors of all ages and abilities.
• Have a delicate touch when handling three-dimensional artifacts.
• Upon completion of training, candidate should be familiar with all 3 Museums programs, activities, and components.
• Ability to communicate with other staff through oral and written communications in an understandable and pleasant manner and to develop and maintain a working relationship with peer group.
• Excellent research, writing and word processing skills a plus.
Additional Information
Position is permanent, part-time, intermittent, and not to exceed 32 hours per week. All hours are in the evening between 5 p.m. and 2 a.m. Hours can be any day of the week but mainly weekends and some holidays.
The majority of time is spent in an exhibit environment with special lighting and other effects. Other work may be oriented throughout Cincinnati Museum Center’s main campus in Cincinnati’s West End, including any of the three museums, special exhibits, the Grand Rotunda, Reakirt Auditorium, Newsreel Theater, the Dining Rooms, museum galleries, Individual must be able to stand for long periods of time with occasional bending, stooping, lifting. May be required to lift up to 30 pounds. Must also be able to move supplies in and out of storage rooms, set-up tables and chairs and open and close room dividers, education service areas, outside on Museum Center grounds, and other areas as assigned.
