Pandemic!

Grades 6-12

Scientists, public health officials and government leaders around the world are carefully watching the potential of Avian flu to mutate into a form that can be transmitted from human to human. Learn about what the flu is and why scientists think this flu could be different than other strains. Learn about the most destructive pandemic in modern times, the Flu Pandemic of 1918, and how it impacted American society. This fully integrated program utilizes historical primary sources, the latest scientific research, and current events to examine the issues surrounding health and the global spread of disease.

Evolution 101

Grades 7-12

Living things on earth are constantly changing. This program examines the forces driving evolution, with illustrative examples from the collections of Cincinnati Museum Center. Also included will be a discussion of the history of the evolution debate, including Charles Darwin and others.

Earth Science

Walk in My Shoes: Paleontologist
Grades K–4
How does a paleontologist do her job? What tools are required to examine rocks that are millions of years old? What do fossils tell us about life 65 million years ago? This session examines these questions and more, allowing students to see into the life of a scientist.


Walk in My Shoes: Archaeologist

Grades K-6

How does an archaeologist do his job? From Egypt to Indiana, archaeologists are using the latest tools and techniques to better understand civilizations thousands of years old. This session allows students to see into the life of a scientist through objects and instruments from Cincinnati Museum Center’s collections.

Ice Age Geology
Grades 4–8
Glaciers scrape and scour the land beneath them, leaving the Earth forever changed after they recede. Participants examine the rocks and geologic formations left behind by the giant sheets of ice and snow that covered much of North America 13,000 to 17,000 years ago.

Three Centuries of Ecology
Grades 6–12

The relationship between humans and the environment is a delicate one that requires constant observation and measurement. This program explores how the human view of the environment has changed over the past 300 years, and how technology is helping us to better understand the world around us.

Physical Science

Physics Can Be Phun

Grades 5-9

Explore physics through toy-based science activities. Students investigate the laws of motion with emphasis on gravitational and kinetic energy. Through scientific inquiry students use the skills of prediction, observation, explanation and summary.
