Cincinnati 28 is an interdisciplinary drama experience about the true story of twenty-eight slaves that fled from Virginia plantations, crossed the Ohio River at Lawrenceburg, Indiana from Kentucky. They continued their adventurous escape through Cincinnati on the road to freedom. Through the dialogue of the professional cast the audience will learn the dangers awaiting a runaway slave, the life of a slave, the pain of separation from family and friends, and the courageous roles of the conductors and stationmasters of the Underground Railroad. Major research has discovered that there are many forms of learning styles from which people can discover and understand themselves and the world. It is the goal of the play Cincinnati 28 to interweave these styles and engage the audience in an interdisciplinary experience that promotes personalized learning and reinforces proficiency goals. The drama was created to enable participants to connect their own emotions to those enslaved as well as to investigate the themes of courage, dialogue, reflection and change.
