All aboard for National Train Day!
We're gathering steam to celebrate National Train Day on May 9 for train enthusiasts with a full day of activities inside historic Union Terminal, which opened as a train station in 1933. Now home to three museums and an OMNIMAX® Theater, Union Terminal still houses a working Amtrak station.
Here’s what to look forward to this year:
Take a free tour of Union Terminal, one of Cincinnati’s National Historic Landmarks. During your 45-minute tour, Cincinnati Heritage Programs docents explain the construction, architecture and art of one the finest examples of the Art Deco style. Hear details about the world-famous mosaic murals and visit the Harold C. Schott Union Terminal President’s Office, today’s Amtrak waiting room and Rookwood Tea Room. Complimentary tours are scheduled for noon, 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
Stop by Tower A, the original control tower for Union Terminal. Get a bird’s eye view of the tracks still in use today, and explore the vast library of artifacts relating to Union Terminal’s rich history. Free.
Learn about Cincinnati's historic railroads and the development of Union Terminal with the "Trains of Union Terminal" program from 1-3 p.m. in the Cincinnati History Museum (free for Members or with museum admission).
