Kids Museum Month

The Month of October is Kids Museum Month!

Cincinnati museums team up to create programs, events, and fun for
area families.

This October, families have a great new reason to visit Cincinnati arts and cultural centers. For the first annual Kids Museum Month, five museums – Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati Museum Center. Contemporary Arts Center, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, and Taft Museum of Art – are teaming up to offer programs and events along with the chance to win great prizes.

With every visit to one of the museums, guests will receive a passport that can be stamped at each of the participating museums. The stamps enable the museum visitors a chance to win great family prizes, including museum memberships, free tickets to exhibitions, and the grand prize – a three-night stay for four people at Walt Disney World, including hotel accommodations and tickets to all four Disney theme parks (meals and airfare not included).

To sweeten the deal, guests who visit three of the museums will receive a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Graeter’s. Brochures with details about all of the programs during Kids Museum Month will be available at the participating museums and at area Graeter’s locations.

Kids 12 and under visiting Cincinnati Museum Center during Kids Museum Month will receive FREE admission to Real Pirates: The Untold Story of the Whydah from Slave Ship to Pirate Ship (one free child's admission with every paid adult admission). Real Pirates includes over 150 actual artifacts recovered from the wreck site of the Whydah, the only authenticated pirate ship ever discovered in American waters!

The first Kids Museum Month event is Saturday, October 6 at the Cincinnati Art Museum, for the Family First Saturday. Get ready for scavenger hunts, hands-on art making, visits with local artists and more, all tied to the theme of Shapes and Colors. Madcap Puppet Theatre and the Afrikan-American Drum & Dance Ensemble will visit as well.

The next Saturday, October 13, Families Create! at the Taft Museum of Art. Kids 5 to 12 years old, accompanied by an adult can Scratch the Surface! and experiment with four-color printing using scratchboard.

On Saturday, October 20, the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center will offer Family Freedom Saturdays presented by The Enquirer, where children and their families can learn more about the life of heroic abolitionist John Parker through fun crafts, live theater performances and storytelling.

Kids Museum Month wraps up at the Contemporary Arts Center on Sunday, October 28. It will be Family Sunday so you can head upstairs to the ‘UnMuseum’ for art-making, sandwich style. Local artist Michael Weber will lead kids through this colorful and surprising activity.

To enter to win the great prizes, families just need to have the special Kids Museum Month passport form stamped each time they visit one of these museums during October. More stamps mean more chances to win great prizes!
