POSITION:

TRAVELING EXHIBITS TECHNICIAN (part-time)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The position is one of two primary CMC staff to supervise installation and de-installation of traveling exhibitions at other host locations.  Candidate must be able to troubleshoot and fix technical or cosmetic problems with these exhibits while on the road.  They must also coordinate shipping, set-up, take down, refurbishment, and travel logistics with host institutions, and act as liaison between Cincinnati Museum Center and host institutions, and provide customer service and technical support once the exhibit is installed at the host site. 

When not on the road with tech work, the position responsibilities also include fabrication projects for in house exhibits at Cincinnati Museum Center and design and build projects for out of house clients.

The position requires 9 - 12 weeks of travel per year.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

-A Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field is preferred but not required.

- Experience with Carpentry/Cabinet making and other woodshop tool use required.

- Computer and Electronic skills are required. Mac and PC platforms are used extensively, along with Audio Visual Equipment including digital projectors, cameras, and audio/video machines. Experience with the following is preferred: Vectorworks or other CAD software, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, MS Office, Flash Card Media.

-  A valid driver’s license is required.  Must meet criteria for insurability by museum insurance carrier.

- 1-2 years of experience with exhibits, museums or other arts or theater

organizations preferred. 

- Forklift certification is a plus.

-Any work experience with set or exhibit construction and installation is beneficial.

The successful candidate will possess strong organizational skills; self-motivated work ethic; excellent communication, supervisory and people skills; and the ability to meet deadlines. Other desirable qualities include creativity while thinking on your feet and the ability to design and concept new exhibit ideas. Ability to multi-task is essential.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Position is part time, 10 -20 hours/week. . Occasional evening and weekend hours required in addition to the travel. Number of work hours while traveling will vary as well as actual times of work.
