POSITION: Archives Internship

DEPARTMENT: Archives and Manuscripts Department

DEADLINE: Friday, March 26, 2010 before 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Primary goal is to prepare archival collections containing genealogical information for use by researchers.
  • The National Genealogical Convention is coming to Cincinnati in May 2012 and this intern position will help the department prepare for these researchers.
  • The intern will process a collection of interest to genealogists.
  • Tentatively, the collection selected for this project is the records of the New Orphan Asylum for Colored Youth.
  • The intern may also work on creating a summary guide to all archival collections held by the department.
  • The project will include data entry, database work and historical research.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The intern must be a college student with an interest in history and archival work.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to do research and to write clearly.
  • Ability to print neatly. Experience with Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to follow instructions and to handle archival materials with care.
  • Prefer experience working in a library or archives.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This is a part-time, unpaid position with a flexible schedule of Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
