POSITION: Cincinnati History Museum Internship: Youth Programs Summer Training
DEPARTMENT: Cincinnati History Museum - Education
DEADLINE: Friday, March 26, 2010 before 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtain a general knowledge of Cincinnati History Museum (CHM) exhibits and floor demonstrations.
- Assist the Program Coordinator in the training of CHM’s youth volunteers.
- The Youth Volunteer Program trains youth ages 13-18 in customer service, exhibit interpretation, and program demonstration. Youth accepted into the volunteer program typically stay for 3 or more years. 1 to 15 youth are present on the museum floor daily during the summer months.
- General office work related to youth training, including using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be out-going, friendly, and energetic and have a positive attitude.
- Desire and ability to work with the public, particularly youth and families, in an informal education environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
- Must possess excellent communication and good listening, mediating and organizational skills.
- Background in history or liberal arts is a plus.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Flexible work hours.
- Candidate should be able to stand or sit for at least one hour or more.
- Candidate should also be able to walk up and down two flights of stairs and navigate floors that are uneven and/or ramped.
- Occasional lifting of programs supplies, office supplies, and exhibit items is required. Items may weigh 10 pounds or more.
