"Music in the Museum" Concert Features

Renowned Organist Gerre Hancock with May Festival Chorus

Monday, April 14, 7:30 p.m.

Acclaimed Concert Organist, Gerre Hancock, with The Cincinnati May Festival Chorus, Robert Porco, Director, will perform in the Rotunda of Cincinnati Museum Center, with the Grand E. M. Skinner Concert Pipe Organ.

Gerre Hancock, one of America's most highly acclaimed concert organists and choral directors, is Professor of Music at The University of Texas at Austin. He was Organist and Master of Choristers at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City, for more than thirty years. He was also Organist and Choirmaster of Christ Church Cathedral in Cincinnati.

The world-renowned Cincinnati May Festival Chorus, formed in 1880, is the core artistic element of the Cincinnati May Festival. They will perform works of Franck, Bruhns, Langlais, Reger, Hancock, Bernstein, Vaughan Williams, Brahms and Mendelssohn.

The "Music in the Museum" concert series of Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal features internationally acclaimed concert organists performing on the renowned 1929 E. M. Skinner Symphonic Concert Pipe Organ in the lush, reverberant acoustic of the Museum Center Rotunda. Michael Barone, Public Radio producer of the program "Pipedreams" commented, "This is a marvelous and magical 'new' venue for organ music, an evocative and visually provocative space perfectly suited to the special nature of the best organ music. The organ is resourceful and beautiful, and fills the room generously with a rich, exciting sound."

Tickets are $18 each. Group rates are also available. Order by phone by calling (513) 287-7001 or 1-800-733-2077; online at www.cincymuseum.org; or at Museum Center (day of concert).
