Lectures, presentations and a party highlight upcoming exhibit programming

leading into 95th anniversary of ship launch

As the 95th anniversary of its launch approaches, Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal commemorates the occasion with a number of special events, designed to accompany the blockbuster showing of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. The exhibit is on display at Museum Center through May 6, 2007.

For ticket information and reservations to all programs listed below, call (513) 721-7021 or visit www.cincymuseum.org.

CSI: Titanic

Titanic was the largest manmade moving object of its time with a strong double bottom and water-tight bulkheads that many thought made the ship unsinkable. Yet a glancing blow from an iceberg sent the ship to the ocean bottom with more than 1,500 passengers and crewmembers. What role did materials play in the disaster? Was the steel too brittle or were the wrought iron rivets too weak? Dr. Jennifer Hooper McCarty, a materials scientist who specializes in the analysis of historic materials, presents the latest findings.
