Cincinnati Museum Center offers a variety of badge programs for WEBELOS Boy Scouts, American Heritage Girls, Junior Girl Scouts and Brownie Scouts. All programs include private demonstrations, discussions and exploration of the museum all day. Call (513) 287-7021 to reserve your place.
Girl Scout CMC 2008-2009 badge programs People of the World Try-ItGirl Scouts learn about children from a variety of countries by visiting our Children Just Like Me exhibit in the Duke Energy Children’s Museum. They will learn how to say hello and goodbye in different languages, as well as songs and crafts from different countries. The program includes presentation of the badge provided by Cincinnati Museum Center and all day access to Duke Energy Children’s Museum. Programs are held the same weekends as our Culture Fests to provide additional diversity. Culture Fests include storytelling, dancing, native clothing, jewelry, and performances free in our Rotunda. Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #1, 4, 5 and 6. November 22, 2008 March 14, 2009 April 25, 2009 9:30 a.m. to noon Fee: $13/scout, $6.50/adultCrystal Clear Science DaysBrownies have the unique opportunity to work towards three badges in one day! Crystal Clear Science will provide interactive, experiment-based programs covering the Science Wonders, Water Everywhere, and Sounds of Music Try-it activities. The day includes three 45 minute programs and access to both the Museum of Natural History & Science and the Duke Energy’s Children’s Museum. February 21, 2009 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee: $25/scout, $6 adult Listening to the Past This program will introduce history to Brownies in an interactive way. The program begins in the Cincinnati History Museum where the girls can explore our 1800’s replica of the Cincinnati public landing. Your troop will get an opportunity to journey back in time and play children’s games from the past. The program continues with a look at the exhibit Cincinnati in Motion. The program concludes with a private tour of Union Terminal where your troop will discover the importance of the building to Cincinnati history. All participants will receive a Listening to the Past Try-It. This program fulfills requirements #2, 4, 5 and 6. November 8, 2008 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 18, 2009 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Fee: $13/scout, $6.50/adult Science in Action, NEW!Brownies will go on a science and technology hunt in our Museum of Natural History & Science, make weird glop, learn about magnetic attraction, and conduct fun science experiments! The program ends with the presentation of the badge provided by Cincinnati Museum Center. Participants and adults will have access to the Museum of Natural History and Science all day. This program fulfills requirements #1, 2, 3, 5, and 6. November 15, 2008 December 13, 2008 January 31, 2009 10 a.m. to noon Fee: $13/scout, $6.50/adult Rocks Rock Badge This program includes a guided tour of the Museum of Natural History and Science. Scouts will learn about fossils, minerals, glaciers and dinosaurs. The girls will have a private demonstration in our Nature’s Trading Post discussing hardness scale, local fossils, and types of rocks. Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #1, 2, 3, 5, and 8. Badge is provided by Cincinnati Museum Center. December 6, 2008 February 28, 2009 April 18, 2009 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee: $8/scout, $6.50/adult Architecture BadgeUnion Terminal is a perfect place to hold this program. Girls will discuss styles of architecture in the Cincinnati area and around the world. Girls will put together a scrapbook of architectural styles they can take home with them. They will then have a private Rotunda Tour guided by a volunteer of the Cincinnati Heritage Program. Once back in the classroom, girls will work together to design and build a structure a quickly as possible with limited resources. All participants will receive an Architecture badge. The troop will have access to the Cincinnati History Museum all day. Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #1, 2, 4, 7, 8 and 10. November 1, 2008 January 10, 2009 February 7, 2009 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee: $10/scout, $6.50 adultLocal Lore BadgeThe program consists of a visit to the Cincinnati History Museum, a short discussion on local legends and lore, and an activity utilizing historic maps of our city. The program focuses on the changes of our city, good and bad, and how they have affected the people living here. Girls are required to complete one activity of the badge on their own prior to the program. At the conclusion, everyone participating will receive a badge. The program also includes access to the Cincinnati History Museum all day. Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #1, 2, 4, 7 and 10. February 14, 2009 May 9, 2009 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee: $13/scout, $6.50/adult Theatre BadgeHelp your troop dive into the world of theatre. Girls will discover basics of performing for an audience. They will learn how to: project their voice clearly, apply stage make-up that will fool anyone, learn to think quick on their feet during improv and much more! All participants will receive a Theatre Badge provided Cincinnati Museum Center. Also the troop will have access to the Children’s Museum all day. This program fulfills requirements #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 9. December 20, 2008 March 7, 2009 April 4, 2009 10:00 a.m. to noon Fee: $10/scout, $6.50/adult Folk Arts Badge, New!The program consists of a visit to the Cincinnati History Museum and a visit from a storyteller. Scouts will also learn a folk dance, folk song, and make a special craft they can take home with them. All participants will receive a Folk Art Badge provided by Cincinnati Museum Center. Participants and adults will have access to the Cincinnati History Museum all day. Program fulfills requirements #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10. December 13, 2008 January 24, 2009 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fee: $13/scout, $6.50/adult2007- 2008 Boy Scout SeasonWebelo Geology BadgeJoin us for a look at geology in the Cincinnati area! Look at rocks, minerals and fossils in The Nature’s Trading Post, experiment with volcanoes, and test your skills in geology while walking through the Museum of Natural History! November 8, 2008- 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. January 24, 2009- 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. February 28, 2009- 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. March 28, 2009- 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CANCELED make-up session scheduled for May 16, 2009 May 2, 2009- 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee: $8/scout, $6.50/adultWebelos Showman Badge, NEW! Help your Cub Scout troop dive into the world of theatre. Scouts will discover the basics of performing. They will learn to apply stage make-up, improv, learn a folk song, make a puppet and put on a puppet show! Participants will have access to the Duke Energy Children’s Museum all day. Participating in this program will fulfill requirements #3, 5, 6, 11, 16, 19, 21, 22 and 23. .March 21, 2009 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Fee: $10/scout, $6.50/adult Boy Scout Indian Lore Badge, NEW! Scouts will learn about Native American traditional dwellings, tribal governments, language, clothing, games and other important aspects of Native American culture. Troops will explore both Natural History & Science and Cincinnati History Museum’s; as well have access to Natural History & Science all day. This program fulfills requirements #1, 2c, 2d, 3a and 4i.
