Exhibit Program Specialist - Cincinnati History Museum (FT)
Job Description
Ensures all visitors to the Cincinnati History Museum have a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience. This position requires time spent on the museum floor greeting and orienting visitors, as well as presenting programs and demonstrations that relate to regional history, using both hands-on demonstrations and costumed interpretation. Exhibit Specialists also conduct historical research and design new programs about Cincinnati history under the supervision of the Exhibit Program Coordinator. Specialist may be required to oversee daily museum operations, make daily floor schedules, and supervise other staff, adult and youth volunteers, as well as being asked to perform other duties as required.
Days/Hours of Work: Sunday through Thursday shift. Sunday hours are 10:00am- 6:30pm. Monday through Thursday hours are 9:00am – 5:30pm. Some evenings or weekends will be required as necessary.
Educational Requirements
Minimum education required: High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree in History, Museum Studies, or Education or equivalent knowledge and experience strongly preferred.
Skills
Minimum skills required:
The ability to learn Cincinnati History and directly apply it to floor demonstrations and program development is necessary. Candidates must have an outgoing personality, excellent communication, and customer service skills. Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task are essential.
Minimum work experience required:
A minimum of two years experience working with the public, preferably in a museum or educational setting is preferred.
