Eastwood Circle Sears Homes Walking Tour

From 1908 to 1940, Sears, Roebuck and Company created thousands of mail-order kit homes. The houses were constructed of precut quality materials, designed in attractive styles and priced for every budget and family size, making the homes affordable to everyone. The kits, delivered by railcar, included 30,000 pieces and precise instructions so that the new owner could build their own home or hire a contractor to do the job.

On this walking tour, see the exteriors of ten different styles of Sears houses located in a neighborhood that, in 2005, was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Learn how to identify a Sears house by noting certain characteristics, find out why Cincinnati has more Sears houses than any other city in the U.S. and why they are still treasured today. Tour is not handicap accessible.
