Ohi:yo’ Our Home
Ohi:yo’ Our Home
Native histories. Native voices.
Humans have called our region home for more than 12,000 years. In partnership with our Tribal Partners, we’re developing a new gallery to tell these histories through the objects they left behind and the stories they continue to tell. Featuring more than 150 archaeological and ethnographic objects and guided by the voices of our Tribal Partners, Oh:yo’ Our Home – from the Seneca word “great river” – will highlight the resilience of the Native communities that have called, and still call, this land home.
Partners from three tribes are actively engaged in the development of the Ohi:yo’ Our Home gallery: the Shawnee Tribe, Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma. Five additional tribes are consulting on the project: Wyandotte Nation, Seneca-Cayuga Nation, Seneca Nation of Indians, Delaware Nation and Tuscarora Nation.
