Science comes to explosive life at Cincinnati Museum Center

Austin E. Knowlton Foundation Science Stage opens September 13

CINCINNATI – Cincinnati Museum Center (CMC) is bringing science to life with a flash and a bang! CMC will open the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation Science Stage September 13 in a big way.

CMC is showcasing the spectacle of science with new Science Live! Stage Shows. The shows make concepts from science textbooks leap off the page with fireballs, vapor clouds and a dose of theatricality. The 10- to 20-minute shows use large-scale demonstrations and audience participation to tackle physics, electricity, chemistry and more.

Science Live! will show guests incredible things we don’t normally get to see – scientific phenomena explained in spectacular and engaging ways. Guests can experience an electric current, be shrink-wrapped through the power of air pressure and feel the heat from a chemistry-fueled fireball. Large-scale demonstrations will spark guests’ curiosity and encourage them to ask questions.

“Sometimes we hear from learners that physics and chemistry concepts can be hard to understand,” says Whitney Owens, chief learning officer at Cincinnati Museum Center. “Science Live! shows create ‘aha’ moments of understanding and fuel the kind of curiosity that drives scientific exploration and discovery. They’re fun and engaging for all ages and levels of knowledge.”

The Science Stage will use a variety of instruments and materials to bring science to life, including liquid nitrogen, butane torches and Van Der Graaf generators. So whether the show goes up in flames or is cooler than dry ice, you’ll feel the electricity in the air (maybe even in your hair)!

The Austin E. Knowlton Foundation Science Stage is located in CMC’s Museum of Natural History & Science. Science Live! shows are included with general admission and occur Saturdays at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

CMC is grateful for the Austin E. Knowlton Foundation’s support of the Science Stage and for Procter & Gamble’s programming support.
