Once Upon a Museum
Join us in The Children's Museum on Saturday, September 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as local partners share resources to support young readers. From free books to literacy tips for families, enjoy a full line-up of engaging story times and hands-on activities that bring the magic of reading to life!
Storytime in Kids’ Town Park
- 10 a.m. – I Am Not Afraid of Spiders, read by Ashley Aya Ferguson, Local Author
- 11 a.m. – Feelings are OK!, read by Kristy High, Local Author and Imagination Library Representative
- Noon – I Didn’t Win, read by Mary Wineberg, Local Author and Olympic Gold Medalist
- 1 p.m. – Cookies are NOT for Breakfast, read by Dominique Turner, Local Author and Founder of Cocoa Books
- 2:30 p.m. – Brown Hands, Black Schools HBCUs, read by Latoya Turner, Local Author and Founder of Brown Hands Literacy
- 3:30 p.m. – Bloomie: Overcoming Big Feelings Through Deep Breathing
When a playtime scuffle with a friend leaves Bloomie upset, she discovers a simple way to pause, regulate her emotions, and feel better. Through this engaging story, kids learn when and how to use a calming exercise during moments of stress or overwhelm. - 4 p.m. – Jackie, Jesse, Joni, and Jae, read by PJ Library, Local Foundation centering Jewish Stories
KidSPACE Programming
- 10 a.m. to Noon – Mini Book in Minutes
Families can create their own colorful mini book inspired by quick story prompts that spark imagination and self-expression while encouraging reading, storytelling and creativity led by artist and author, Annie Ruth. - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Build-a-Poem with WordPlay Cincy
Stop by WordPlay’s interactive poetry station, where participants of all ages can craft poems using word cards. Whether you're passing through or staying to collaborate it’s a playful invitation to play with words. - 12:30 p.m. – Storytime Books Alive! For Kids®: We Had a Picnic This Sunday Past
Join Books Alive! For Kids® as we celebrate family, literacy and art through the book, We Had a Picnic This Sunday Past by acclaimed novelist, Jacqueline Woodson. Stick around and create Claes Oldenburg-inspired food sculptures from clay and explore how food brings people together and can become works of art.
Corbett Theater Programming
- 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Scripps National Spelling Bee presents: The Mini Spelling Bee
Drop in the Corbett Theater for a chance to participate in a mini spelling bee, presented by Scripps National Spelling Bee. Decorate the iconic speller placard and practice spelling a word on stage. New to spelling? No worries! Young ones can read letters from a whiteboard and be awarded a certificate for participation. Pick up resources about the Great Words Great Works program, Bee’s Bookshelf club and school enrollment. - 2 p.m. – May Festival MiNis
Join Edy Dreith from the Cincinnati May Festival Choir as they build phonological awareness with a sing-along story time featuring Dragons love Tacos and Sheep in a Jeep. - 3 to 5 p.m. – Elementz Cincinnati presents: The Power of Language
Join Elementz Cincinnati as they share the power of language, storytelling and reading through the powerful lens of Hip-Hop cultural art forms, empowering young minds to use their creativity to write, draw and express themselves through guided instruction in poetry and visual art.
