Arctic: Our Frozen Planet plays it cool in the OMNIMAX® Theater
Cincinnati Museum Center's newest immersive film dazzles with the vibrancy of life at the top of the world
CINCINNATI - Cincinnati Museum Center’s latest OMNIMAX® film is helping you stay cool this summer by taking you on an immersive journey across the top of the Earth. Arctic: Our Frozen Planet surrounds you in the beautiful world and vibrant life in some of Earth’s most forbidding conditions. Produced by BBC Earth and SK Films and narrated by Academy Award-nominated actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Arctic: Our Frozen Planet opens this Friday in Cincinnati Museum Center’s Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX® Theater.
As you embark on a year-long adventure across the seasons, you’ll enter the astounding world of polar bears, narwhals, beluga whales and more. Hear the thundering hooves of stampeding caribou and muskox they try to escape hungry wolves. Be amazed by the ice-covered bumblebees that emerge gloriously from their winter lairs. And cheer on a baby harp seal as it takes its first swim in the icy waters of the Arctic.
“When you visit the OMNIMAX® Theater you lose yourself in another place, becoming immersed in the sights and sounds of places in ways you’ve never seen before,” said tony Lawson, vice president of guest engagement at Cincinnati Museum Center. “The sweeping landscapes and vibrancy of life captured in Arctic: Our Frozen Planet gives you an intimate experience among the creatures who call the region home. You walk away from the film with a new connection to our Arctic world.”
The Arctic is home to more than 4 million people across eight countries. For millennia, the study seasonal beat that allows wildflowers to flourish in the summer but locks the open in sea in tight ice in the winter has allowed life to thrive. But as the planet warms, it upsets the natural balance and the Arctic is changing faster than anywhere else on Earth. Scientists are now discovering what happens here, affects us all.
“We set out to make a film that celebrates first and foremost the wonder and magic of the Arctic and the incredibly diverse life that survives and thrives there,” said Jonathan Williams, executive producer and head of commercial for BBC Earth. “We also wanted giant screen audiences to understand how deeply connected to the Arctic region we are and how we depend on it.”
From the extreme cold of winter to the height of the summer melt, Arctic: Our Frozen Planet dazzles you as you follow the changing fortunes of the Arctic’s resilient wildlife and people.
Arctic: Our Frozen Planet opens Friday, July 10 at Cincinnati Museum Center’s Robert D. Lindner Family OMNIMAX® Theater. Visit cincymuseum.org/arctic for more information.
